Mobiles Should Be Banned for Under 12s

BAN MOBILES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 12, SAYS EXPERT Daily Express 23.4.10

Halleflippinluja! At long last, it looks like people are starting to sit up and notice there is a massive guinea-pig experiment going on here, as they have already done in several other parts of the world.

The story reported yesterday was that children under 12 should not be allowed to use mobile phones because their health could be at risk according to Prof. Lawrie Challis of the Mobile Telecommunication and Health Research Programme.

Scientists are concerned that a significant number of studies have linked mobile signals to a form of brain tumour and it is believed that childrens’ brains may be particularly susceptible. The general advice as always is don’t give young children a mobile phone (we were Ok without them when we were their age so I’m not sure why they have become so important nowadays unless we are buying into the fear and safety culture and/or bowing to kid peer pressure) and, if they do have one, encourage them to text only which is much safer.

The Daily Express also reported the decision that 250,000 people will be monitored for 30 years to check whether there is a link with the use of mobile technology and diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s by a Cohort Study on Mobile Phones. Bit late but welcome in my view.
